We went to the church and taught English classes last night.  I had Brad bring a few picture books with him so I read the story The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid Of Anything to the 10 children there.

I made chocolate chip cookies with the last of the M & M’s I brought from home and took them for refreshments.  Everyone seemed to enjoy them.  They have really beautiful desserts in the bakeries throughout Japan.  Their cakes and fruit tarts are more beautiful than anything I have ever seen in America.

There is a desert that they sell at many bakeries around here that Scott loves.  I’m not so much of a fan.  It is made by inserting various fruits and vegetable into the middle of a mashed up red bean ball coated with a soft white dough sprinkled with starch.  The name of it is “What the heck is in this”!

Dennis and Emi drove us home from the church last night and brought a couple of warm winter blankets to put on our “bed”.  It doesn’t feel like it will ever get cold enough to need them.  We are still sleeping with the bedroom door open every night, but they assure us that we will need them soon.

Traffic Signals
When the traffic light changes color and it is time to go the Japanese say the light is blue.  I did some research on this and found out that they didn’t have a word for green until more modern times.  Everything blue and green was just referred to as blue.  Sometimes they still refer to green vegetables as blue.  They didn’t add the color green to text books until after World War II.

We went to the grocery store last night.  Scott has been dying to have some chocolate milk and we finally found some!

We went home and opened it up and discovered it was coffee milk!  So we poured it down the sink.  Scott was very disappointed!  Apparently they don’t drink a lot of chocolate milk in Japan, and Scott thinks it will be the downfall of the country.

We found some great socks at the store.  The Japanese people love to wear clothing with English words on them.  Sometimes they just don’t make sense!  We got a good laugh out of it!

I’m sure they were laughing at us when we tried to buy a flashlight at the same store.  We couldn’t find one, so Scott got out his dictionary and proceeded to ask the clerk to flash him!  Later he realized his mistake and felt quite embarrassed about it.  After some charades she did however lead us to a flashlight.  We will be great charade players upon our arrival home!
