Here is a little about the
food we ate on our trip. The first night
in Hiroshima we
were able to find a little “hole in the wall” restaurant that served one of
Brad’s favorite Japanese foods. It is
called Okonomiyaki, and it is made by pouring a thin pancake onto a hot
grill. After it is cooked they add
shredded cabbage, various meats and some kind of magic sauce. They then flip it over and pour water under
it to steam the cabbage and cook the meat.
They have this big spatula which they press down on the top while it is
cooking. When it is almost done they
scramble an egg off to the side and top it with cheese. Then they layer it all together and move it
in front of you for you to eat right off the grill, no plate necessary! It was very oishii!

The next night we went to a
restaurant in Kyoto
where we had a small grill built into the middle of the table. There we had Yakiniku. It was an all you can eat buffet and it was a
whole lot better than Chuck-A-Rama! They
brought out plate after plate of meat, which we cooked on the little grill. We also ate rice, salads and ice cream for
dessert. We had to order two ice cream
sundaes each because they were Japanese sized, very little! We once bought a bag of cookies and when we
brought them home and opened them up they were individually wrapped and about
the size of a silver dollar!
